Additively manufactured manufacturing device

3D printing makes it possible!

In cooperation with an automotive supplier, an ergonomic and at the same time cost-effective improvement could be implemented for an assembly step. The company relied on our professional 3D printing service. An additively manufactured auxiliary device for screwing an airbag module (dimensions: 450 x 300 x 200 mm) not only saved weight (- 80%) but also costs (-80%) and manufacturing time (- 50%).

The device was manufactured with the so-called fusion layering, also known as Fused Deposition Modeling, or FDM for short. Especially for such devices, FDM offers decisive advantages over other additive manufacturing processes. On the one hand, it is cheaper for more solid parts, and on the other hand, a much wider range of materials can be used. In our case, a hard TPU (Shore D58) with a high wall thickness and dense filling was used for the component. The material is characterized by particularly good adhesion between the layers and slight flexibility. This guarantees a very long service life for this device.
